Professor James Nicholas was born in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, and  educated at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. Before earning an Honors Degree in Economics from London University, he worked as a typist for several years.  After completing his studies at London University, he went on to win a post-graduate scholarship to the United States, where he earned a Masters Degree in Political Science.

After completing his studies, he began teaching Social Sciences at Niagara College, Welland, Ontario. It was during this time that he first received international recognition for his life long passion and devotion to world peace. His authorship of the document  “An Appeal for Peace” addressed to the youth of the world was unanimously received and endorsed by  sixty-six Nobel Laureates, from twenty countries. He   presented the document in a private audience with Secretary General of the United Nations, Javier Perez de Cuellar

In 1991, he completed work on a document entitled The Toronto Appeal – An Appeal for Peace (PDF) that calls for a Peace Dividend. This document was  well received by the international community and endorsed by four Nobel Prize laureates and presented in a private audience  to the United Nations Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali. In 1992 and in 1993 he was nominated for the  Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his leadership and founding of The World Council for Global Cooperation and he was received in a private audience by the Nobel Committee in Oslo. The World Council for Global Cooperation is a peace organization and was the only organization of its kind headed by Twelve Nobel Laureates from 12 countries.

In addition to his internationally recognized writings, Professor Nicholas has also authored two books. His first book entitled  The Global Plan For The Advancement of Humanity(Pdf) presents forty specific proposals as possible solutions to the world’s foremost serious problems – war, conflict, poverty, ecological/environmental degradation and violation of human rights. His latest accomplishment is a book entitled ‘A Book Of Wisdom and Delight – How to Fall In Love With Life’ where readers will discover how to feel better, think better and remain loving, successful youthful and energetic throughout life.
